About Us

To reach the Unreached,  to be Discipled,  and to Disciple

OUR PROCESS

Churches can be motivated by various factors. Tradition, programs, personalities, events, newcomers and even buildings can each be a controlling force in a church. But for a church to be balanced and healthy it must be motivated and built around the five New Testament purposes given by Jesus. PCAG’s five purposes of worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry are based on the Great Commandment “Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-40) and on the Great Commission “Go make disciples … baptizing them … and teaching them to obey everything” Jesus had commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20).

By balancing these five purposes we are able to grow warmer through fellowship, deeper through discipleship, stronger through worship, broader through ministry, and larger through evangelism – all at the same time.

OUR ROOTS

People’s Church was founded by Pastor Colton and Sister Susanne Wickramaratne in 1957. It is a local church of the Assemblies of God of Ceylon, Which is a Pentecostal denomination that came about as a result of the world-wide Pentecostal revival at the turn of the 20th century. Today, the Assemblies of God is represented in 134 countries around the world and has been active in Sri Lanka since 1920, as the Assemblies of God of Ceylon. It became an incorporated body recognized by an act of Parliament in 1947.
