People’s church has a large congregation and while the ministry of People’s Church is available to all who need it, the members of People’s Church are those who have identified People’s Church as their spiritual home, and are committed to its ministry, and the fulfilling of its vision. Those who seek membership are required to have accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and Lord, be baptised in water, be part of a home cell group of the Church, have completed the first two levels of the School for Christian Growth, and have attended the Pastor’s class on the vision of the church. Applicants are received as members before the congregation at a service of the church, after an interview and the approval of the Board of Elders. All members function under the constitution of the church, and are accountable to the leadership of the church. Since members commit themselves to the vision and ministry of the church, they are entitled to take responsibility in the various ministries of the church.

People’s Church is a large church with a wide-spread ministry. The Home Cells have from the earliest days of the church, and especially since the 1980s, been the foundation of its growth. The Home Cells are informal small groups which minister to the people of the locality of the believer’s home or office. They provide the opportunity to meet weekly in worship, prayer and Bible study, share testimonies, pray for needs, and develop friendship. We also call these ‘open cells’ since they are open to all, irrespective of their gender or religious background. The Home Cell leader is required to attend a G-12 group of similar leaders of the same gender, which also meets weekly. The G-12s are discipleship groups patterned on the discipleship group of Jesus. Cell group leaders have the opportunity of participation in the ministry of the church and with the continual formation of new cell groups, the opportunities also grow. In this format we have three G-12 networks – for men, women and youth, with provision for children as well.

A weekend camp is setup from Friday night to Sunday afternoon for a time with God, away from work, family and the din of everyday activity. This is about having an intimate meeting with the Lord, for some for the first time, for others a renewal experience.
Job had this kind of experience in the book of Job chapter 42:5. As in the case of Job, seeing God is much more of an experience than just hearing of him - and a necessary one for us. When that happens, we see ourselves through God's eyes and realise our true spiritual condition- a righteousness that is like filthy rags in God’s eyes. The result is repentance and a renewal and re-commitment to God. Lives are transformed.

While the People’s Church has full time and lay clergy, it recognises strongly the ministry of the believer. Apart from the Cell groups, there are many opportunies for ministry under the five purposes of People’s Church – Ministry, Evangelism, Discipleship, Prayer and Fellowship. Every believer is encouraged to to be involved in one or more areas of ministry, and the church is open to suggestions of new areas of ministry. Worship and Music, Teaching, Prayer, Missions, Evangelism, Relief and Development, Care and Concern, Ushering, Ministry to the differently abled, Elders, those affected by AIDS, and the use of media in communications are some of the opportunities available in our multifaceted outreach to the community.
